David Hayward is a character on ABC's version All My Children and Prospect Park's Online Reboot of AMC. He is currently being played by Vincent Irizarry from 1997-2006, 2008-2010, and 2013-present. The character left the show in 2006 after being on the show for almost ten years. David Hayward returned in October 2008. David was presumed dead when he was poisoned with digtalis by unknown assailant in 2010. However on the reboot, he is alive and is being released after serving time for murder/manslaughter.
David is the source of all the problems that are happening in Amanda and JR's lives. David revealed that he wanted custody of the Little Adam after Babe's death. David blames JR for the death of his daughter.

It is revealed that he shot JR Chandler (the person that gunshot that rang in the network finale back in 2011), but is stated that those events occur five years before. It has been also stated David and JR have done a lot to cause pain and suffering, implying that there is more victims that currently known. David was imprisoned for this and is released during the Online Reboot of AMC's premiere episode. He goes to visit a headstone, presumably the victim of the shooting, David says that there will hell to pay and cries. The events of five years have traumatized few people, especially Brooke English, AJ Chandler, and Angie Hubbard.
It's revealed that Marissa Tasker was the person that JR shot (unclear if this was his main target, could be since he was dumped hard in the closing weeks of the finale, or another person). Still unknown if there is more victims or other events that occurred throughout the 5 year gap to cause widespread grief.
David goes to the hospital and tries to get Cara Castillo to reveal what exactly happened to their baby. Cara says that the baby was miscarried, but there is most likely more to it. He attempts to take all the medical controls offline from the life support of JR, but says that living on life support is a bigger punishment than death. David notices that JR is moving and starts choking him. Dixie, JR's mother, comes in and demands that the police come. Jesse Hubbard, the police chief, comes and is convinced by Angie (who believes David's cover story) to not arrest David for attempted murder.
